We all know that Apple has dumped 3.5mm audio jack thinking that wireless- enable listening devices is the way to go! ( I have blogged about the obsolete of 3.5mm audio port like a year ago. Does that I mean I have more foresight than Apple?)

Not as if that is going to make a difference in how other headphone markers manufacture their products. Bluetooth is still currently the wireless standard for the audio devices.

Press Release – Let Your Vinyl Sing with Sony’s New Premium Turntable

Uncompromising features for an exceptional High-Resolution Audio experience at home or on the move

  • Audiophile Turntable with High-Resolution Audio ripping capability for high quality music on the move
  • Outstanding sound quality through enhanced sound tuning and newly developed arm and plinth design
  • New and incredibly easy to use software to record and edit vinyl recordings

Sony PS-HX500 Turntable. Source: Sony Singapore

(SINGAPORE, 6 June 2016) – As the global resurgence in vinyl continues, Sony has announced a new premium turntable that enables vinyl owners to enjoy their favourite tracks in outstanding quality, even when on the move. In a world first, the Sony PS-HX500 allows you to convert your vinyl collection into High-Resolution Audio quality digital files (equivalent to DSD quality) so that you can enjoy their unique sound wherever you may be.

High quality sound detail

Made for music lovers, every area of the PS-HX500 is designed to deliver the best possible sound quality and treat your vinyl with the respect it deserves. From a newly developed tone arm to the die-cast platter and the plinth itself; every component has been carefully considered to deliver a great musical performance.

The straight tone arm, designed with the stylus tip located in the central axis of the arm, ensures excellent stereo balance. The arm also features an integrated round head shell that minimises resonance, for pure sound reproduction. An anti-skating device is incorporated into the arm assembly, along with an arm cueing system. A moving magnet cartridge is supplied with tracking force and balance easily adjustable.

The PS-HX500 has an aluminium die-cast platter and is belt driven by a two speed motor. A high density 30mm acoustic plinth is featured, along with a newly designed, 5mm rubber mat and four insulator feet. A classical approach to turntable design, from years of past experience has produced a model which can satisfy the music enthusiast.

Vinyl becomes portable

Record enthusiasts can sometimes be faced with the prospect of inferior digital files of their analogue records for listening on the move. The PS-HX500 comes with a high quality DSD native converter, which gives the user the option to copy their favourite analogue tracks to a PC as a digital file, up to High-Resolution Audio quality. This allows the user to take their favourite music from their vinyl collection and play it on a compatible PC, mobile, portable music-player, or even in their car. The record player also comes with an integrated phono preamp, allowing direct connection to an external amplifier for high-fidelity home audio playback.

The PS-HX500 is the world’s first turntable to support Double-rate and Single-rate DSD (5.6MHz/1bit, 2.8MHz/1bit), a powerful audio format that will reproduce your music with both accuracy and natural musicality. Furthermore, the AD conversion process can offer a choice of file quality from WAV, to High-Resolution Audio with higher bit rate and sampling frequencies, through to double-rate DSD. Users can therefore not only enjoy their records wherever they go but also appreciate them in superior sound quality.

Easy recording and editing software

Using the PS-HX500 PC application software, a vinyl can easily be converted to High-Resolution Audio files on the user’s PC and edited in post-production.

The compatible software app is simply downloaded and after connecting the computer to the turntable, the recording process is quite simple. Tracks can later be edited, titled, cut, or combined together, allowing users to be truly creative with their music.

The PS-HX500 will be available at all Sony Stores, Sony Centres and selected Sony authorised dealers from July 2016.

Event – Sony Showcases Hi-End Projector – VPL-VW5000ES

Announced at Sound Decisions, the Sony VPL-VW5000ES is the first projector designed specifically for home cinema use that features 4K resolution powered by a laser light engine that provides 5,000 lumens of brightness, is compatible with High Dynamic Range (HDR), emulates the new BT.2020 color gamut, and covers the full DCI colour space.

Source: Instagram user @weewu

Sony continues to be the only manufacturer designing projectors specifically for the home theatre market that provides full 4K resolution imagers. Sony’s advanced SXRD panels are designed to produce outstanding native device contrast and when coupled with the laser light engine, the VPL-VW5000ES provides an infinite dynamic contrast ratio and 5,000 lumens of color light output.

The VPL-VW5000ES covers the full DCI-P3 color gamut. By taking advantage of its professional calibration tools the VPL-VW5000ES allows the user to choose to emulate the BT.2020 color space, as well. This ensures compatibility with upcoming home video formats. And by bringing together high brightness, infinite dynamic contrast and the latest signal processing technology, the VPL-VW5000ES provides compatibility with High Dynamic Range (HDR), enabling the viewer to see wider ranges of contrast and colors than ever before.

Sony’s Advanced Motionflow feature reduces blur and maintains brightness and VPL-VW5000ES’ extremely fast imagers allow viewing of fast action content – especially sporting events – with great smoothness, even with 4K signals. Along with HDR and BT.2020 capabilities, the VPL-VW5000ES also includes an HDMI input that is HDCP 2.2 compatible. That same input has enough bandwidth to accept 4K 60p signals up to YCbCr 4:4:4 8bit or YCbCr 4:2:2 12bit, thus helping to ensure that the VPL-VW5000ES is prepared to handle all types of video content now and in the future.

The VPL-VW5000ES can be tilted as much as 30 degrees, allowing for flexible installations that take advantage of mirrors to place larger screens in smaller spaces, such as rear projection. Thanks to a newly developed liquid cooling system with low noise operation, the projector can also be located near viewers without impacting the enjoyment of a program’s audio. The unit ships with a standard powered lens with a zoom ratio from 1.27 to 2.73:1 and lens shift capability of +/- 80% vertical and +/- 31% horizontal.

Benefits of the VPL-VW5000ES’ laser light engine include fast on/off times with no waiting for the projector to cool down – which means you can immediately turn it back on to resume binge-watching your favorite show. The light engine delivers a long operational life with a linear decrease in brightness, so the color shifts seen with traditional lamp wear are not expected. But if the color settings do shift over time the VPL-VW5000ES includes a built-in re-calibration function that can be used to test how much the projector has drifted from its original factory calibration and reset it.

The VPL-VW5000ES is available for pre-order now at a recommended retail price of $84,000. For more information, visit http://pro.sony-asia.com/projector.

Press Release – LeEco Leads “Negative Profit for Hardware” Era with Cross-category Launch of CDLA Superphones, TV, EV and VR

le(April 21, 2016, Beijing) On April 20, LeEco held a grand cross-category product launch event at LeSports Center in Beijing, attended by 2,600 journalists and nearly 8,000 LeFans from around the world, where it launched unprecedentedly four new devices across four industries, including Le 2 Superphones, Super TV, Le VR and self-driving Super EV. The four devices belong to four industries yet have the same brain, the same nerve center and the same bloodline and share the same ecosystem.

LeEco holds a vision of an all-compassing ecotopia empowered by constant cross-industry synergistic integrations and shared with users and partners, according to Mr. Jia, LeEco founder and CEO of LeEco at the event. “Launching four smart device products across four industries at the same time is something that no other company in the world has ever tried,” he said. “This looks like a crazy thing to do, but it is actually part of our mission to build an ecosystem world. The world we envision and are moving towards is an all-encompassing world in which our users and partners are empowered to do self-enriching things passionately. Through ecosystem economy and innovation, LeEco is ushering in the exciting ecosystem technology or ET era.”

Le 2 is the world’s first flagship phone to support the LeEco-initiated Continual Digital Lossless Audio (CDLA) standard which is accredited by the Chinese Musicians Association and takes the music industry into the continual digital lossless audio era, representing the second offensive against iPhone.

The introduction of     the CDLA     standard is set     to start a     technology-driven ecosystem-empowered revolution in the music industry. In the past, it often took several years or even decades for a new technology or material to be commercially applied and made widely available due to barriers between industries and the resistance from the vested interests. This pattern has been broken by LeEco’s vertical integration model which crosses the boundaries of innovation and takes down industry barriers to introduce and apply the latest technologies quickly. LeEco plans to promote the new standard in the industry and make the stunning audio experience available to more users.

That is one small step for LeEco, but one giant leap for the music industry. The triple industry revolution triggered by the introduction of the new technology provides eloquent testimony to the power of LeEco’s vertically integrated open closed-loop model. Leading Chinese musician Wang Feng announced that his audio equipment start-up Fiil will adopt the standard and release LeEco customized Type-C headphones.

“The introduction of the CDLA standard is an epoch-making event for the digital lossless audio experience,” said Liu Yuan, Vice President of Chinese Musicians Association. “We are glad to accredit it and hope that there will be more highly influential figures like Mr. Wang Feng and Mr. Jia Yueting to make bold audio innovations and attempts and bring even finer audio experiences to people.”

The Le 2 series is available in three variants: Le 2, Le 2Pro and Le Max2. While continuing the first generation’s popular features such as boltless exterior design, bezeless display, Type-C, and metal unibody, the second-generation series is thinner with guaranteed performance and a longer battery life and even more aesthetically appealing in every detail and as a whole. In particular, it radically does away with the 3.5mm earphone jack to provide users with the revolutionary Type-C digital lossless audio experience, breaking a paradigm that has been unchanged in the earphone industry for three decades and ushering the music phone industry into the CDLA era.

The flagship Le 2Pro, treated with a three-level anodic oxidation process for the first time in the industry, gets a new refresh with new bezeless ID 3.0 screen in infinite design to provide a

completely immersive visual experience. The three-level anodic oxidation process is the result of ten months of intensive R&D efforts with a total investment of more than RMB 20 million, including personnel, material and equipment costs. The top-of-the-line Le Max2 continues Le Max’s symmetrical design in the unique “dopamine red” created by applying color psychology insights to be emotionally appealing and pleasing to the eye. The power and volume buttons are also ingeniously designed and masterly crafted. Le Max2 is also among the world’s first smartphones to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and the world’s first commercially available metal-body phone to offer the ultrasonic fingerprint scanning feature.

The Le 2 Superphones are still offered at a negative profit for hardware as LeEco continues to promote the hardware freebie model in a bid to advocate an all-new ecosystem consumption pattern and usher the industry into the ecosystem era. A total of 1 million units of the Le 2 series will officially become available at 10:00 a.m. on April 26, with Le 2 debuting on LeMall.com and JD.com, Le 2Pro on LeMall.com and Tmall.com, and Le Max 2 on LeMall.com, JD.com and Tmall.com. Le 2 is priced at RMB 1099, Le 2Pro at 1499 and Le Max2 at 2099.

During the launch event, LeEco also unveiled its fourth-generation Super TV lineup – Super 4

X50 Pro (RMB 2,999), Super 4 X50 (RMB 2,499) and Super 4 X50 CSL Edition (RMB 2,699). All the three products are offered at prices below their mass production cost prices with subsidy from the larger LeEco ecosystem to lead the TV industry to the “negative profit for hardware” era. Jia Yueting said that Le Super TV is a true ecosystem TV, with products in each generation setting new benchmarks in specifications and performance and delivering satisfying experience and meeting operation needs in the whole lifecycle. With “super technology, comprehensive ecosystem and disrupting prices”, Super 4 X50 Pro, Super 4 X50 and Super 4 X50 CSL Edition will go on sale on LeMall.com and LePar stores on April 26.

The greatest highlight of the launch event was LeSEE’s first self-driving concept car.

LeSEE co-founder and global vice president Ding Lei gave an introduction to the LeSEE concept car which has an immediate “Internet feel”, with a super-cool ultra-size LED display on the front to display vehicle status. Positioned as an intelligent Internet car, it can drive and learn autonomously with extensive novel functions including face recognition, emotion recognition, environment recognition and road recognition and has received 804 patents worldwide. LeEco has applied for over 10,000 patents worldwide which span nine areas including phone, TV, car, EUI, VR and cloud, demonstrating the power of innovation based on ecosystem synergy.

During the event, Jia Yueting and Ding Lei demonstrated the self-driving function of the LeSEE concept car, using a Superphone to control the car remotely, with its state-of-the-art intelligent connectivity package being highly praised by the audience including VIP guests such as Liu Yonghao, chairman of New Hope Group. Liu Yonghao expressed on site his intent to become the first LeSEE owner in the world. Ding Lei disclosed that the ecosystem-empowered intelligent Internet car will be showcased at Auto China 2016 to be held five days later.

In addition, LeEco also released its latest EUI 5.8 OS which achieves historically nine-camera live video streaming, representing a giant step forward from the 3-camera live video streaming introduced at last year’s 4/14 launch event. Speaking of the 3-camera live streaming, Jia Yueting said then that it would be difficult for Apple to introduce a similar thing even within two years. “Many of our innovations bred within the LeEco ecosystem, as represented by 9-camera live streaming, multi-desktop, voice control and intelligent mobility, are unprecedented in the industry,” said Jia Yueting. “However, it’s not our intent to always go alone on the path of innovation, but we also look forward to communicating with the industry for common development. But LeEco’s model has been often misunderstood and even sneered as doing only model innovations rather than technological and product innovations. The fact is that technological innovation is an integral part of our ecosystem innovations. We look beyond competing on specific points but aim to lead the entire industry comprehensively and give utterance to our voices. Today, I throw down the gauntlet, offering as gifts a whole lineup of our top-of-the-line products, including LeSEE Super EV, to any company in the industry to deliver 9-camera live streaming or similar experience and productize and commercialize it within one year.”

The 4/20 “Ecosystem without Borders” launch event set a number of records. It achieved for the first time global VR live streaming, making it possible for over 1,000 journalists and countless LeFans, including those from North America, India and Hong Kong, to witness the event in a lifelike setting in real time. At the event, LeEco’s new VR product designed to work perfectly with Superphones also made its debut, providing a fascinating immersive experience to users.

The event was not only the world’s first VR-enabled but also the world’s first interactive live-cast launch event, introducing the all-new “live lottery” launch event model. The 4/20 launch event was broadcast live on nearly 100 online video sites and became the world’s first product launch to be live-streamed on Facebook which is one of the cloud sharing distribution channels of LeEco, setting a new record.

Press Release – First in Singapore: Golden Village Multiplex Launches Auro 11.1 3D Sound Technology By Barco

We have heard about Auro 11.1 3D  Technology by Barco for many years. Finally, it is here in Singapore!

Golden Village Multiplex is the first cinema operator in Singapore to support the revolutionary 3D immersive sound technology, Auro 11.1 by Barco. Auro 11.1 brings sound from all around and above to create the most impactful experience. Golden Village Suntec City is the first cinema in Singapore to deploy Auro 11.1 with the debut of Jack Neo’s latest Chinese New Year comedy/ drama, “Long, Long Time Ago”, which was natively mixed in the new immersive technology at Galaxy Studios Belgium.

Mr Sebastian Fong, Manager, Projection Management, Golden Village Multiplex, “Visualisation has grown tremendously in recent years. On the other hand, the evolution of audio technology has been at a gradual pace. This makes Auro 11.1 by Barco a monumental evolution in the history of cinema audio technology. We understand that 50% of the movie experience relies on pitch-perfect audio, which makes it most gratifying for us to be the first cinema operator to launch Auro 11.1 in Singapore”

Auro 11.1 is touted as the most realistic 3D sound experience currently available in the market. Unlike other technologies where speakers are placed only on a horizontal plane and directly above, the Auro 11.1 by Barco’s system uses a sound reproduction speaker layout based on three axes (x=width, y=depth, z=height) and three vertical layers (surround, height, top), which provides the most natural true-to-life reproduction of sound. Thanks to its unique mezzanine layer located between the standard surround and overhead speakers, Auro 11.1 by Barco provides a much better spread of sound in the vertical axis which delivers a natural representation of 3D sound all around the listener using fewer channels than other immersive sound systems.

The benefits of using Auro 11.1 have encouraged Hollywood producers and others from around the world to release more than 125 films that leveraged on the new technology. Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation, has praised Auro 11.1 for offering the best cinematic experience to movie patrons.  DreamWorks Animation’s latest film, Kung Fu Panda 3, is currently playing in theatres in Auro 11.1 by Barco.

Says Mr Eddie Tan, General Manager, South East Asia Entertainment for Barco: “Auro 11.1 by Barco is the apex of cinema audio. Every boom, swoop and whisper will be fully experienced, making your movie experience the ultimate adventure. Auro 11.1 gives film fans the biggest reason to watch movies within the theatres and not in the confines of their homes. We thank Golden Village for this partnership and for launching Auro 11.1 in Singapore.”
