Singapore, 23 February 2016 – Apple was the biggest winner at The Straits Times Digital Awards 2016 today, bagging seven awards across the smartphone, tablet and smartwatch categories. Apple was clearly the favourite among the readers of ST Digital, winning the Readers’ Choice in all five awards which it was shortlisted as a finalist – Best Overall Smartphone, Best Phablet, Best Smartphone Camera, Best Tablet and Best Smartwatch. The tech giant also got the nod of approval from the ST Digital editorial team who chose the Apple iPad Pro for the Best Tablet and the Apple Watch for the Best Smartwatch.
Apple’s dominance in the mobile devices category was blunted by Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 4G+ which won the Editor’s Choice awards for Best Overall Smartphone and Best Smartphone Camera, and by the Google Nexus 6P which took the Editor’s Choice award for the Best Phablet.
Into its fifth year, the annual tech awards aim to celebrate and recognise the best gadgets, games and tech innovations of the year. This year, the awards has been renamed as The Straits Times Digital Awards as the weekly tech supplement had shed its old name Digital Life last year to reflect its integration into the main broadsheet section of The Straits Times.
As in previous years, the awards are divided into Editor’s Choice awards, picked by The Straits Times Digital editorial team, and the Readers’ Choice, selected by ST readers in an online poll in January. They stood a chance to win lucky draw prizes worth over $25,000.
This year saw the introduction of two new categories – Best Smartwatch and Best Fitness Tracker – to capture new segments that are tugging strongly at consumers’ heartstrings and wallets.
Altogether, there were 21 award categories with a total of 105 products and games nominated. About 4700 ST readers voted in the January poll.
Canon emerged as the second biggest overall winner, clinching all four Readers’ Choice awards in the camera categories.
Lenovo was the biggest winner in the laptops category, getting three wins followed by Asus with two.
The editorial team picked The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the Best Overall Game while the readers voted for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
With the haze dominating headlines last year, ST Engineering’s Innosparks duly won the Most Innovative award with its unique Air+ Smart Mask that built an air filter into the mask for easy breathing in the smog.
Ms Irene Tham, Tech Editor of The Straits Times said: “We would like to congratulate all winners. It was a tough call for many of the judging decisions as there were several equally-deserving finalists.
“I would also like to thank StarHub for coming in as our new presenting sponsor this year. Previously, StarHub was only a category sponsor and I am heartened by StarHub’s show of confidence to raise its involvement and support for our awards.”
Ms Jeannie Ong, Chief Strategic Partnership Officer of StarHub said: “I have always marvelled at The Straits Times team for putting together the Digital Life Awards successfully for the past four years, despite limited resources. They have done an excellent job for readers like myself, as they have proven themselves to be the ‘authoritative voice’ on what were the hottest gadgets and best innovations for our industry each year.”
Ms Ong added: “StarHub is honoured to be the presenter of the renamed The Straits Times Digital Awards, and we will continue to work closely with the device manufacturers to bring better improvements to the lives of Singaporean consumers, by enhancing the way they live, work and play.”
The full results of the winners are available online at www.straitstimes.com/tech and will also be published in The Straits Times Digital section tomorrow (Feb 24, 2016).
Funding will support KFit’s expansion as the fastest growing mobile fitness-sharing platform
Mobile app offers hyper-local discovery and easy, same-day reservations of thousands of activities each day
In six months, 250,000 fitness activities reserved across 4,500 gyms and fitness studios in Asia Pacific, over 75,000 activities to choose from KFit every week
KFit, Asia Pacific’s leading mobile fitness-sharing platform to discover and reserve fitness activities, today announced a US$ 12 million Series A investment round led by Venturra Capital, with participation from SIG and Axiata Digital Innovation Fund. Earlier investors, including Sequoia Capital India and 500 Startups, also participated.
KFit partners with studios and gyms, aggregating the supply of over 300,000 different activities every month. It then offers this wide selection to customers in one single, easy-to-use mobile app.
The new funding will enable KFit to expand in the region and invest in the technology, operations and marketing to further solidify its leading position in the Asia Pacific region. Their expansion will go beyond just fitness, with upcoming new categories, activities, and pricing models to be added this year.
The Series A round follows seed funding of US$ 3.25 million in July 2015 and pre-seed funding in April 2015. Since then, business has expanded at an accelerated rate with the number of active customers jumping 400%. In the last six months alone, KFit members have reserved over 250,000 reservations. A reservation is made every minute and customer ratings of KFit activities are at record high of 4.5/5 based on 10,000 reviews and 1.5 million ratings.
In the past six months, KFit has launched in Seoul, Taipei, Manila, Auckland and Perth, expanding its reach to 10 cities across the Asia Pacific region. The number of gyms and studios has surged five times to 5,000, with most of the notable gyms and fitness studios on board in each city.
Its hyper-local approach has flourished in areas with high population density and quality facilities. “At KFit, we’ve seen first-hand that staying active makes people happier and healthier. Our goal is to make it simple to build fitness and wellness into everyday life,” said Joel Neoh, Founder of KFit. “The next phase of our expansion will see us bring even more exciting partners onto the platform, helping us transform our customers’ health and lifestyle as they discover and enjoy great offline experiences across the Asia Pacific region”, he said.
Working out should be an easy, fun and social experience. To enable that, the KFit team has been iterating fast around its technology to create the ultimate personalized and social fitness-sharing experience. New features (see call-out box) have resulted in a 4.4 rating across Google Play and App Store.
With the KFit platform, partnering gyms and studios can promote their brands and fill classes, making it simpler than ever to generate incremental revenue for their businesses. Stefan Jung at Venturra Capital said, “KFit created an enormous opportunity for gyms and studios to market their businesses to an engaged and active consumer base. They have truly redefined the fitness paradigm in Asia Pacific, by helping gyms and studios attract demand in a way that is affordable for members and sustainable for the businesses.”
KFit is recognizing and addressing the pain points in the large health, wellness and fitness industry. Pieter Kemps, on behalf of Sequoia Capital India, said, “Joel and the KFit team have executed extremely well in the last year and quickly emerged as the leading fitness platform for consumers in Asia Pacific. We continue to believe this segment has a big consumer pain point and traditional models of accessing fitness services and infrastructure can be improved upon using hyper-local discovery, demand-matching and on-demand scheduling. We are excited about the impact KFit can have on the fitness and wellness industry.”

One-of-a-kind Xbox One consoles from the Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series
Greater Asia, 28 January 2016 – To celebrate the Lunar New Year and usher in the Year of the Monkey, Xbox unveiled the Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series, comprising eight unique consoles designed by prominent and emerging artists hand-picked from China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. Conceptualized, designed and fabricated over a two-week period, each of the Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series consoles are oneof-a-kind, and was designed to capture the essence of Lunar New Year – a time of festivities, togetherness and sharing.
Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the new year based on the traditional Chinese calendar. It is the most important Chinese festival across the world, typically celebrated over a period of fifteen days, starting on the eve of the Lunar New Year and ending on the 15th day of the first month. Customs and traditions such as reunion dinners, relative visitation and fireworks are some of the festivities that mark Lunar New Year celebrations all across the world.
“Lunar New Year is the most important holiday for the Chinese population all across Asia. This year, we partnered with both leading and up-and-coming artists from four different markets, to create the special Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series that is steeped in the spirit of the New Year. We know that our fans will love to get their hands on one of these unique consoles, hand-crafted specially for fans, and we hope that these consoles will bring their new owners joy, prosperity and good luck throughout the New Year,” said Zeph Stuart, Head of Xbox Asia.
Unveiled at an exclusive launch event in Hong Kong, the Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series will be given away to eight lucky fans in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan via a giveaway held on the respective local Xbox social media pages starting 29 January 2016. To participate, fans will need to “tag a friend” on the Xbox social media pages below, and describe in 88 characters or less why they deserve to bring home one of the eight artistic consoles1.
Here are the eight consoles featured in Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series:
Monkey Ear, Monkey Year by Kevin Chou (周育潤)
Two big round ears symbolize not only the year of the monkey, but also echoes the concept of “reunion,” an integral part of the Lunar New Year spirit.

Song-Kuan Wang is a well-known sculptor and artist. He focuses on human solicitude and expresses this in traditional and modern art forms.
Good Fortune Monkeys by Tzu-Yu Chao and Chang-

What the Luck by Jan Curious
A break from the traditional red, the black and white in this piece represent the sky and earth, or
‘yin and yang.’ The large white Chinese character, “福” which means luck, is in white and signifies happiness that seems unobtainable, but is actually the accumulation of all good memories.
Jan Curious is a designer and singer of the band Chochukmo. He hopes to get people thinking through his music and drawings.

Candy-box One by Ar To (阿塗)
The candy box design represents the gifting of happiness to people during Lunar New Year and interplays with how the Xbox One brings joy to its user
Ar To is an illustrator and graphic designer. Ar To’s works underscore societal happenings and reflect the “reality of the world.”
Big Fortune by Zoie Lam
Traditionally during Lunar New Year, people place panama oranges at home to bring good fortune. The square panama in the design represents breaking old rules and creating new environments in the new year.
Zoie Lam is a fashion designer, illustrator and stylist who established her own brand, ZL by ZLISM back in 2010 and was the first Hong Kong designer to be invited to join Fashion Week in Berlin in Fall 2015.
The Forbidden X by Cay Kou (郭祥)
A homage to the iconic Forbidden City and its beautiful architecture, this piece visualizes the tension between power and limits, creating a heightened experience for gamers.
Cay Kou, is a 24-year-old visual artist who graduated from the famed Tsinhua University’s
Academy of Fine Arts
“We are extremely grateful to our legion of Xbox fans for their strong support over the past year. To kick off 2016 in a big way, we are rolling out attractive Xbox bundles that offer special discounted packages for a limited period this Lunar New Year, on top of the Lunar New Year Xbox One Art Series giveaway. We are committed to our fans in this region, and are working on delighting our fans in fresh new ways this year,” said Zeph Stuart, Head of Xbox Asia.
With 2016 featuring a whole host of exciting game releases and activities by Xbox, fans in Asia can look forward to much more when Lunar New Year comes around. With great new games, hundreds of additional titles coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility, a wave of investments in Xbox and gaming on Windows 10, new Xbox Live updates and new features for the console including Cortana on Xbox One, 2016 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for gamers in Asia. The PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider is set to launch today and the closed beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division kicks off January 29 to 31. GeForce Gamers are Game Ready with our driver release today.
Today Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics released a video to promote the technology in the game. Included in the new Tomb Raider game is support for NVIDIA HBAO+ GameWorks technology for shadowing and shading.
NVIDIA HBAO+ adds realistic Ambient Occlusion shadowing around objects and surfaces, with higher visual fidelity compared to previous real-time AO techniques. HBAO+ adds to the shadows, which adds definition to items in a scene, dramatically enhancing the image quality. HBAO+ is a super-efficient method of modelling occlusion shadows, and the performance hit is negligible when compared to other Ambient Occlusion implementations.

ROG GX700
ROG Hydro Overclocking System
ASUS ROG GX700
Moving away from the matte black design of the ROG notebooks, the ROG GX700 has an aggressive design and sports the new ROG Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper colour scheme. Its new Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper colour scheme has been specially chosen to enhance its modern, angular lines.
The exclusive ROG Hydro Overclocking System gives ROG GX700 superior overclocking performance for unrivaled gaming power. It uses a pump to circulate coolant around heat-generating components insidethe ROG GX700. The liquid coolant then heads back into the cooling module where two radiators help to dissipate heat. The ROG-patented connection between the cooling module and ROG GX700 ensures that the liquid coolant flows smoothly between the two components without leaking.
The coolant used provides corrosion protection for all internal components and materials, including aluminum, iron, steel, and copper alloys. The very low depletion rate of the organic-acid inhibitor removes the need for supplementary cavitation erosion protection additives, and reduces the maintenance downtime normally required for regular inhibitor tests and additive top-ups to maintain inhibitor concentration.
Powered by the latest Intel® Core™ K-SKU processor and NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 980 graphics card, the ROG GX700 comes with the ROG Hydro Overclocking System, which allows users to overclock the processor performance by up to 48%, with a BClock boost of around 31%, increasing clock frequencies from 3.2GHz to 4.0GHz. In addition, the DDR4 RAM can be boosted by up to 43% from 2,133MHz to 2,800MHz to give the 17-inch laptop incredible desktop-grade gaming performance.
Furthermore, the integrated NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ display technology synchronises the display refresh rate to the graphic processor to minimise frame rate stutter, and eliminates lag and visual tearing to give users the smoothest and fastest gaming visuals possible.
Outstanding Performance At Home or On-the-Go
With its incredible overclocking potential, desktop-grade NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 980 graphics, and ROG Hydro Overclocking System, the ROG GX700 delivers performance that goes far beyond that on other gaming notebooks, providing gamers a platform for extreme gaming. Even when undocked, it is still the world’s fastest single-GPU gaming notebook. The ROG GX700 has a thin and lightweight design that makes it ideal for gamers to take to any event where mobility is an advantage.

The Best-Selling Gaming Mouse Just Got Better With Customizable RGB Lighting
SINGAPORE — 5 JANUARY 2016 — Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today announced the introduction of the Logitech® G502 Proteus Spectrum Gaming Mouse. By adding RGB customizable lighting to the Logitech® G502 Proteus Core, the world’s best selling gaming mouse just got even better. The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum still retains the world’s best DPI sensor, advanced surface and weight tuning, but now gives you even more features to elevate your game and style.
“The G502 Proteus Spectrum has an amazing sensor, and now it’s got customizable lighting as well, said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of gaming at Logitech. “You can also sync it with your other RGB-enabled Logitech G gaming gear to create some really cool effects.”

RGB Customizable Lighting
Match your style and environment by adjusting up to 16.8 million colors and brightness, using Logitech Gaming Software (LGS). Bring your mouse to life with breathing light patterns, or set your lighting to continuously cycle through the color spectrum. The lighting can also be synchronized with Logitech G’s other RGB products.
Accurate and Responsive Optical Sensor
The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum features Logitech’s most powerful and accurate optical sensor, the PMW3366, for maximum performance and tracking accuracy and the exclusive Logitech G Delta
Zero™ optical sensor technology that increases reliable targeting. The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum also features a huge DPI range of 200 to 12,000 with zero sensor acceleration, zero smoothing or filtering and zero pixel rounding.
Tunable Balance, Buttons, Surface and Weight
Personal tweaks make all the difference. For a mouse that feels just right for you, adjust the weight and center of balance through the placement of up to five 3.6g weights in the mouse. You can also easily reassign any command or macro to one of the 11 programmable buttons, using LGS.
And for optimal performance, calibrate the sensor against a gaming surface’s physical and reflective characteristics. Surface tuning optimizes the sensor dynamic range to match the properties of the mouse surface, which results in maximum high-speed performance and lower lift-off distance.
Comfortable Shape
The textured rubber grips and a convenient button layout ensure great feel and performance from your first encounter with the mouse. Additionally, the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum includes individual left and right buttons that provide a rigid and stable platform, resulting in precise, durable and satisfying clicks. Mechanical micro-switches under each button further enhance feel, speed and accuracy. And, a dual-mode hyper-fast scroll wheel offers enhanced click-to-click precision and lightning-fast scrolling for the Web.
Pricing and Availability
The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum builds on the success of the G502 Proteus Core – the bestselling gaming mouse based on worldwide revenue. The G502 Proteus Spectrum is now available in Singapore, for a retail price of $129.00.

Singapore, 27 October 2015 –National Geographic Channel (NGC) and Singtel TV today introduced Project Breakthrough, a new learning initiative that aims to spark interest and passion in modern science and technology among Singaporean children aged 9 to 11 years old.
“Singtel TV is delighted to be part of Project Breakthrough with NGC. Together, we can go beyond empowering children with knowledge through entertainment and give them first-‐hand experience of the exciting world of science and technology. We hope this learning initiative will encourage them to seek answers through innovation, one of Singtel’s core values and the cornerstone of Singapore’s success”, said Mr Goh Seow Eng, MD, Home, Consumer Singapore, Singtel.
Developed in line with the nation’s call for self-‐directed learners, Project Breakthrough is supported by Science Centre Singapore (SCS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and the A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R). These learning institutions will host various educational sessions and facility visits, allowing participants to delve into the world of innovation and engage with scientists and experts on hot topics such as alternative energy and assistive robotics.
Future innovators who present the best five ideas in various fields will be offered an opportunity to further their interest through attachments at local research institutions.
Project Breakthrough was inspired by NGC’s latest production– Breakthrough, a revolutionary six-part series about scientific explorers from leading universities and institutions, and how their cutting-edge innovations and advancements will change our lives in extraordinary ways.
Presented by National Geographic and GE, brands well-‐known for their dedication to innovation, science and technology, the series will premiere on NGC (Singtel TV Ch 201) on Saturday, 7 November. Each hour-‐long episode is directed by Hollywood visionaries – Ron Howard, Brett Ratner, Peter Berg, Angela Bassett, Akiva Goldsman and Paul Giamatti.
“NGC has a reputation for high-‐quality programming that consistently resonates with audiences across the world and we aim to inspire viewers through premium programming. This initiative provides the perfect platform for us to identify and connect with the best in the field of innovation in Singapore, thus providing a strong co-‐relation between the content and knowledge we share on-‐air and the real life experiences of our young scientists-‐to-‐be” says Sun Young Moon, Vice President, Programming, National Geographic Channel.
“SCS is happy to partner with NGC to work on Project Breakthrough, targeting our efforts specifically on an impressionable age group of 9 to 11. At this age, kids are brimming with curiosity and are not afraid to observe and ask questions. These are the precursor attributes of becoming a scientist. We hope our tinkering and educational sessions paired with the airing of the Breakthrough series will spur further interest in science,” says Associate Professor, Lim Tit Meng, Chief Executive, Science Centre Singapore
