17 September 2014 – Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, is showcasing its portfolio of solutions for the healthcare sector at Digital Healthcare Week 2014, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
Inmarsat’s portfolio helps to bridge the gap between remote and urban communities by providing the connectivity needed to deploy eHealth solutions that allow for the provision of healthcare in areas not covered by telecommunications infrastructure.
“The shortage of skilled medical workers and poor healthcare infrastructure prohibits remote and isolated communities from accessing quality healthcare services. Although technology applications can help overcome these obstacles, deployment in rural areas is compromised by the lack of terrestrial and cellular communications,” said Nada El Marji, Director, NGO Business, of Inmarsat.
Inmarsat global services like BGAN, BGAN Link and IsatHub are portable, lightweight terminals that allow healthcare workers to easily connect a remote clinic and access eHealth solutions such as intelligent decision support systems which can aid them in diagnosis and treatment. They also ensure access to telemedicine, allowing reliable transmission of a patient’s vital signs in real-time to experts anywhere in the world.
“Instant access to a medical specialist during an emergency can save a life. Equipping healthcare workers with satellite solutions that are mobile and easy to use, opens opportunities for isolated communities to avail in quality healthcare anywhere and anytime,” added Nada El Marji.
Designed for mobility, field medical teams can also take advantage of Inmarsat’s latest product IsatHub to convey timely information on disease outbreaks to central planning authorities aiding in prevention and control of further outbreaks. Additionally, experts can be consulted using these services to support in diagnosis and treatment of affected patients.
At the same time, remote broadband connectivity provided by BGAN and BGAN Link gives practitioners access to online learning and continuous education programs to build capacity of the remote medical team.
Aside from exhibition, talks and forums are also scheduled in the coming Digital Healthcare Week. Visitors are able to gain first-hand information on the technologies that impact the healthcare industry.
