With three ear gels, three sizes of ear foams and three wingtips, users are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding the best fit for their ears. Active users no longer have to worry about an earbud slipping out at the wrong time during an intensive workout session.

Superior Audio Quality With Noise Cancellation

Featuring two microphones in each ear bud, the ear buds are designed to pick up your voice through the first microphone, while the other aims to pick up external noises. The Jabra Elite Sport can switch between the earbuds receiving the least noise, as well as remove the background noise by differentiating the separate feeds it receives on each ear bud, leaving only the crystal-clear clarity of your voice in any environment.

Medical grade credentials

Pioneers in sound from sports earbuds to hearing aids, Jabra (as part of the GN Group) has used its unique understanding of high-quality sound in the development of Jabra Elite Sport. Created in collaboration with engineers from ReSound, a specialist in medical grade sound solutions and a world leader in Smart Hearing Aids, Jabra Elite Sport draws on more than 145 years of experience in hearing innovation and fit.

Hear Your Surroundings While Running
When activated, the Elite Sport’s HearThrough technology allows the in-ear speakers to recreate ambient sounds, ensuring that runners are aware of their surroundings including unexpected incoming traffic and other dangers, while plugged in.

The Elite Sport comes with two individual earbuds, offering users the option to use a singular earbud for mono playback and calls through its primary (right) earbud which communicates directly to the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth. The secondary (left) earbud, which connects to the primary earbud via near field magnetic induction, automatically reconnects when both earbuds are placed within 25cm, allowing for a seamless transition between conversation and stereo music.

Through its integrated app, users can gauge their fitness level via the VO2 Max measurement, as well as improve their run timings through the race-time predictor, and plan their workouts for maximum effectiveness with the recovery advisor. Press Release – Apple tops The Straits Times Digital Awards with seven wins

Singapore, 23 February 2016 – Apple was the biggest winner at The Straits Times Digital Awards 2016 today, bagging seven awards across the smartphone, tablet and smartwatch categories. Apple was clearly the favourite among the readers of ST Digital, winning the Readers’ Choice in all five awards which it was shortlisted as a finalist – Best Overall Smartphone, Best Phablet, Best Smartphone Camera, Best Tablet and Best Smartwatch. The tech giant also got the nod of approval from the ST Digital editorial team who chose the Apple iPad Pro for the Best Tablet and the Apple Watch for the Best Smartwatch.

Apple’s dominance in the mobile devices category was blunted by Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 4G+ which won the Editor’s Choice awards for Best Overall Smartphone and Best Smartphone Camera, and by the Google Nexus 6P which took the Editor’s Choice award for the Best Phablet.

Into its fifth year, the annual tech awards aim to celebrate and recognise the best gadgets, games and tech innovations of the year. This year, the awards has been renamed as The Straits Times Digital Awards as the weekly tech supplement had shed its old name Digital Life last year to reflect its integration into the main broadsheet section of The Straits Times.

As in previous years, the awards are divided into Editor’s Choice awards, picked by The Straits Times Digital editorial team, and the Readers’ Choice, selected by ST readers in an online poll in January. They stood a chance to win lucky draw prizes worth over $25,000.

This year saw the introduction of two new categories – Best Smartwatch and Best Fitness Tracker – to capture new segments that are tugging strongly at consumers’ heartstrings and wallets.

Altogether, there were 21 award categories with a total of 105 products and games nominated. About 4700 ST readers voted in the January poll.

Canon emerged as the second biggest overall winner, clinching all four Readers’ Choice awards in the camera categories.

Lenovo was the biggest winner in the laptops category, getting three wins followed by Asus with two.

The editorial team picked The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the Best Overall Game while the readers voted for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

With the haze dominating headlines last year, ST Engineering’s Innosparks duly won the Most Innovative award with its unique Air+ Smart Mask that built an air filter into the mask for easy breathing in the smog.

Ms Irene Tham, Tech Editor of The Straits Times said: “We would like to congratulate all winners. It was a tough call for many of the judging decisions as there were several equally-deserving finalists.

“I would also like to thank StarHub for coming in as our new presenting sponsor this year. Previously, StarHub was only a category sponsor and I am heartened by StarHub’s show of confidence to raise its involvement and support for our awards.”

Ms Jeannie Ong, Chief Strategic Partnership Officer of StarHub said: “I have always marvelled at The Straits Times team for putting together the Digital Life Awards successfully for the past four years, despite limited resources. They have done an excellent job for readers like myself, as they have proven themselves to be the ‘authoritative voice’ on what were the hottest gadgets and best innovations for our industry each year.”

Ms Ong added: “StarHub is honoured to be the presenter of the renamed The Straits Times Digital Awards, and we will continue to work closely with the device manufacturers to bring better improvements to the lives of Singaporean consumers, by enhancing the way they live, work and play.”

The full results of the winners are available online at www.straitstimes.com/tech and will also be published in The Straits Times Digital section tomorrow (Feb 24, 2016).

Press Release – Unique Opportunity to Own James Bond’s #AstonMarton #DB10

SINGAPORE – 1 February 2016 – The Aston Martin DB10 — the first car created exclusively for James Bond by British luxury brand Aston Martin — is to go under the auctioneer’s gavel at the London auction house of Christie’s on 18th February with proceeds donated to Médecins Sans Frontières.

source: Aston Martin website:http://www.astonmartin.com/en/cars/db10

‘Spectre — The Auction’ celebrates the release of the 24th Bond film on Digital HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD with 24 special auction lots going under the hammer for charity, led by the Aston Martin DB10.

Celebrating the great British brand’s half century with Bond, which started with the iconic DB5, the DB10 gives a glimpse of the future design direction for the next generation of Aston Martins. Production of the DB10 was strictly limited to ten examples of the bespoke sports car which was developed and hand-built by the designers, engineers and artisan craftspeople at Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters in the UK for the latest Bond film, Spectre.

The DB10 to be auctioned, is the only car to date in the rarest DB lineage to be made available for private ownership. It is also the first ever Aston Martin to receive a platinum award from the Aston Martin Works Assured Provenance scheme. The Assured Provenance process is the first official authentication programme to be provided in-house by Aston Martin. Drawing on the unrivalled knowledge of a committee of authoritative Aston Martin experts, the pioneering Assured Provenance certification programme is administered and run by the brand’s world-renowned in-house heritage car facility — Aston Martin Works.

As part of the painstaking procedure of examination and authentication, the DB10 has undergone a digital scan which has been verified and held in a secure archive for future reference.

The DB10 features a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine and six-speed manual gearbox. It has an estimated top speed of around 190 mph.  The car features an all carbon fibre exterior, while the interior has been painstakingly handmade using fine luxury leathers, carbon fibre and aluminium.

Most of the DB10s were modified for use in the filming of Spectre, but the DB10 offered at Christie’s is one of only two “show” cars, which were left unmodified and used for display purposes. This DB10 took pride of place at the world premiere of Spectre at the Royal Albert Hall in London and has been signed by James Bond himself, Daniel Craig. The auction will take place on 18th February at Christie’s King Street auction house in London.

To register for this once in a life time opportunity, please visit spectrelive@christies.com. Further information about the auction can also be found at www.christies.com/bond

Pioneer – A Long Forgotten Japanese Electronics Giant

I am sure those who are in the 30s remember those days when we could be spending hours in the living room flipping around with the wires connecting between the bulky, enormous size amplifier and the tall, classy floor-standing speakers (back in those days, having a giant sound system is a pretty big deal!)

In the 90s, computer speakers, MP3 and MPEG were deemed to be bad quality(if you think it is getting better nowadays, go dig out your old CD and listen to yourself!) and consumers will spend over 100 bucks to buy CD and LD (DVD comes slightly later) so that they could enjoy a theatre-like experience at home.  (“Home Theatre System” and “Hi-Fi” if those terms have rung the bell!)

Speaking about Laser Disc (LD) or Home Theatre System  ( I am pretty sure people who are born in the early 2000s have not seen this Alien device before!), people who underwent that era will know a very Japanese brand ” Pioneer”.

Source: answers.com :Laser Disc Player. The smaller disc is the standard-size CD

Back in those days, Pioneer sold millions of sound systems to all around the world. Capitalised on their expertise in sound system, they launched satellite TV channel offering karaoke music videos in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Stock (quote 6773.JP) was trading at high 4600 yen.

Time changes. Consumer nowadays are looking for convenience than quality. More compact sound systems that are cheaper and easy to set up has gained popularity among the consumers. If you visit your friends’ house, you seldom see a big sound system in their living room. Likely, you will see a soundbar and TV.

Unsold inventories start to build up in Pioneer’s warehouse due to slow response to market changes incurring tremendous loss for the past few years. Gone with the good old days, stock tumbles to only a few hundred yen.

However, situation starts to get better for Pioneer as the company repositions itself in the electronics sectors. Now, they are focusing on car navigating and sound system OEM services. The strategy has proven to be a good move. Sales is growing steadily for the past few years.

Source: Gizmag.com: Pioneer Text to speech car system

Will Pioneer make a comeback? Although the company is able to bring down the loss, it is still pretty uncertain for the company given the fact of intense competition in the car system market. Nonetheless, the industry outlook is pretty promising. Google has spearheaded the commercialisation of the smart car system. With their expertise in the hardware, there could be a chance for Pioneer to make a comeback.

What did you think?
